Our 4 strong pillars

Virsa Foundation is an Arts and Cultural Non-Profit Society aimed at empowering & supporting women from all walks of life. Virsa Foundation is dedicated to preserving and promoting cultural heritage, traditions and history for future generations.

We stand on 4 strong pillars

Our culture, heritage, empowerment and entertainment in the form of meaningful connections.

We provide platform for women to connect multiple times throughout the year.

DHARMVIR DHALIWAL

President of Virsa Foundation.

Alongside my cultural work, I have proudly served as a Community health care worker with Fraser Health since 2007. I have dedicated myself to supporting seniors & individuals in need with compassion, patience and dignity. This role has deepened my understanding of the importance of human connection, respect for elders & community care.

As a visionary and a founder, I started Virsa Foundation in 2016 with 32 ladies. Today we have over 2000 ladies who have joined us. This has certainly deepened my understanding of human connection, respect for elders along with community engagement. These values that also guide my work with Virsa Foundation. My mission has always been to empower women, preserve our heritage and create a space for meaningful connection. Under the umbrella of Virsa Foundation, we bring our community together for international women’s day, Mela Teeyan dah and recognize women for achievements. Through dance, music, storytelling, food, and traditional displays, I aim to unite generations in a celebration of our shared identity, strength and sisterhood.

DAVINDER BACHRA

Director, Virsa Foundation

I have decided most of my adult life, volunteering with different organizations support women, seniors and children. This has provided me so much insight into what matters most in our communities. This has provided me much needed love and inspiration to be part of Virsa Foundation.

I am a very passionate and caring person. My work with Soroptimist international women’s association Surrey, PICS and even SEYVA (Socializing, educating youth through volunteer work), has certainly made my love for humanity, even stronger. I am honoured to be part of Virsa Foundation where I am able to empower women of all ages and ethnicity. I can respect our elders and engage with each one at cultural and heritage level. Virsa Foundation provides me a platform to make a meaningful impact in my community. I am proud of my strong connections

Baljinder Sandhu

Director, Virsa Foundation

As a proud member of the Panjabi community in in the Lower Mainland, I am so grateful to have worked with many wonderful people over the years who have shared their unique stories and skills. These experiences have served as important motivation for me to work in the Virsa Foundation.

I relate to many women who have come to Canadaas new mothers supporting their children and families. Seeing my own family grow has given me happiness and joy. With that, I have still always had a sincere passion for the arts and nurturing our Panjabi culture. While also working in healthcare and in the Vancouver and Panjabi film industry, I gained confidence to use my voice and pen to speak and write about our community, our culture and the experiences we all go through. I admire and am so proud of all the women who have worked hard to pursue their dreams in the face of any adversity and hardship. They have been my inspiration. It is a true honour to be a part of the Virsa Foundation team as our goal is to empower women, preserve our heritage and keep our curiosity and love for the language alive.I will always cherish the meaningful connections thathave been made. And I look forward to working together to unite and recognize the talented women in our community as well as celebrate our friendships and identities.
